what's the neatest bird you've seen recently?

a few months ago, I was in New Jersey with friends, and I took a small walk through a forest. there were vultures in the highest branches of the trees, staring down, sentry-like. as I passed each tree, one vulture after another would thrash its wings and take off from its perch. I felt like I was in the tutorial of a video game, my path guided by the vultures' cues, or maybe in the opening scene of a movie. I couldn't get the opening beach scene from Det Sjunde Inseglet out of my head, which is annoying, but in the moment I felt like I had stepped out of space and out of time, in the same way that scene makes me feel.
